Origins of Buddhism/History of Buddhism
Siddhartha Guatama found Buddhism during his search for Enlightenment. Guatama was in pain and rebirth to Enlightenment and was known as Buddha. Guatama is believed to have lived from 566-486 BCE and Guatama was born into a royal family located in Lumbini. While Guatama lived inside the palace and couldn’t go outside, he didn’t know the existence of sickness, age, and death. When Siddhartha went outside, he was in shock when he saw the old man, a sick man, and a corpse. By this, Guatama learned about sickness, age, and death and that it was an inevitable fate for everyone. Lead by this view, Siddhartha decided to become a monk instead of living in a royal family. Siddhartha saw sufferings and his main goal was to find an answer to avoid old age, death, and pain by studying religious men but didn’t find an answer eventually. With this life, Siddhartha lived like this for 6 years but was not satisfied with the outcomes and after living a life like this, Siddhartha began to live a life called The Middle Way which is life with neither poverty or luxury. While meditating under a Bodhi tree, Guatama achieved enlightenment and was known as the Buddha. As Guatama became the Buddha, he taught his ideas to people because Brahma told Buddha to teach his understanding to the world.
